2016-17 GLIAC Presidents' Trophy Results Announced; GVSU Captures 19th Consecutive Title

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The 2016-17 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) competition year is complete and the results have been tabulated. The Grand Valley State Lakers have captured their 19th consecutive GLIAC Presidents' Trophy after earning 11 conference championships throughout the past year.

GVSU collected 218.5 points during the 2016-17 season, including seven titles and 124 points in women's competition along with four championships and 94.5 points in men's action. This marks Grand Valley State's 24th GLIAC Presidents' Trophy reign.

Ashland earned its 12th straight runner-up finish with 153 points after capturing the women's basketball and men's outdoor track and field titles to finish ahead of Saginaw Valley State in third with 148 points. Findlay placed fourth with a 144.5-point total with Tiffin one point back in fifth.

GLIAC Presidents' Trophy standings are based on final regular season standings except for the following sports that are based on conference tournament finish: cross country, golf, indoor track & field, outdoor track & field, swimming & diving.

The Presidents' Trophy, commonly referred to as the All-Sports Trophy, is awarded at the end of each year of competition to the conference member having demonstrated general excellence in all or most sports. The award is designed to promote well-rounded athletic programs within each member institution.
