Former GLIAC Commissioner Vern Norris Passes at 89

GLIAC -- Former Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Commissioner Vern Norris has died Monday (Feb. 12) at the age of 89, as announced on the MHSAA website.

Norris was commissioner of the GLIAC from 1987 until he retired in 1992. Prior to his time at the GLIAC, Norris worked at the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) from 1963 and was promoted to executive director in 1978.

Norris was a graduate of Grand Rapids Godwin Heights High School, earned a bachelor's at Western Michigan and a master's at the University of Michigan.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, and a service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansing, according to the MHSAA
