Tiffin’s Adrian Vlad and Saginaw Valley State’s  Kim Oberski Receive GLIAC Post-Graduate Scholarships

BAY CITY, Mich. — Tiffin University men’s soccer player Adrian Vlad (Alba Lulia, Romania) and Saginaw Valley State University women’s soccer player Kim Oberski (Port Huron, Mich.) were chosen as the recipients for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Post-Graduate Scholarship.The honor, which awards each recipient $5,000 in aid to the graduate school of their choice, was voted on by the Faculty Athletic Representatives in the GLIAC.


Vlad capped-off his carreer by starting 19 matches for the Dragons in 2008, who finished the 2008 season with a 13-6 record and won the GLIAC Championship. Vlad earned Second Team All-GLIAC honors in 2008, finishing second on the team with six goals and two assists for 14 points.


In the classroom, Vlad posted a 4.0 grade point average (4.0 scale) while majoring in information systems. He was a CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District selection in 2008, posting the top grade point average among the 12 first team picks. He also earned GLIAC All-Acadmeic acolades in the fall, while landing a First Team Academic selection on the OCSA All-Ohio program, honoring Ohio soccer athletes from Division I, II and the NAIA. Vlad was one of 12 student-athletes to earn the Fall GLIAC Commissioners Award in 2008. In August, Vlad will start the MBA program at ESSEC Business School in Paris, France.


Oberski had a stellar senior campaign playing for the Cardinals in 18 games this past season, scoring a team-leading 12 goals and 29 points, and tallying five assists (tied for second). She put 32 of her 50 shots on net (.640 percent), and helped advance Sagainw Valley State to the 2008 GLIAC Championship game. Oberski, a 2008 All-GLIAC Second-Team selection, netted 33 goals and 20 assists in her career.


Oberski was on top of her game in the classroom as well. A chemistry major, she graduated in May 2009 with a 4.0 grade point average (4.0 scale), and was selected to the All-GLIAC Academic team three times in her career. She also was named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV in 2006 and was one of 12 student-athletes to earn the Fall GLIAC Commissioners Award in 2008. Oberski will continue her studies at Michigan State Universtiy this summer working towards a degree in medicine.
