Grand Valley State Remains Atop the Final Fall Division II Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings

CLEVELAND – After the completion of the fall NCAA Championships, Grand Valley State (Mich.) currently sits atop the final fall Division II Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup fall standings. The Lakers finished second in women’s soccer and placed third in both men’s and women’s cross country for a total of 260 points.

Chico State (Calif.) is in second with 257 total points. The Wildcats scored in four championships, finishing third in women’s soccer, fourth in men’s cross country, seventh in women’s cross country and 17th in men’s soccer.

In third place is California (Pa.). The Vulcans finished fifth in women’s soccer, and ninth in football, men’s soccer and volleyball for 243 total points.

Tampa (Fla.) sits in fourth place with 224 total points. The Spartans finished third in volleyball, fifth in women’s soccer, 16th in women’s cross country and 24th in men’s cross country.

Colorado School of Mines rounds out the top five with 198 total points. The Orediggers finished fifth in both men’s cross country and women’s soccer and 17th in volleyball.

The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference placed three institutions in the top 10, Colorado School of Mines (5th), Western State (6th) and Adams State (10th).

All seven fall NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: football – Pitt State (Kans.); women’s soccer – St. Rose (N.Y.); men’s soccer – Fort Lewis (Colo.); women’s volleyball – Concordia (Minn.); women’s field hockey – West Chester (Pa.); men’s cross country – Western State (Colo.); women’s cross country – Augustana (S.D.).

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports -- seven women’s and seven men’s.

The first Division II Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup winter standings will be published March 15, 2012.
