COLUMBUS, Ohio – A joint initiative between the university and the athletic department in October helped Ohio Dominican University raise over $1,000 for the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research.

The ODU community hosted a month-long fundraiser called Jeans For Hope, in which students, staff and faculty gave money for every October Friday they would like to wear jeans. Additionally, ODU’s volleyball and soccer teams collected cash donations at home games, and the women’s soccer team also sold shirts to raise money. The athletic department also made a cash donation as well.

The late Stefanie Spielman and her husband, former Ohio State great and NFL standout Chris Spielman, have helped raise millions of dollars for breast cancer research. In late October, Ohio State renamed its breast cancer facility as The Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center. Since her diagnosis, the Stefanie Spielman Funds have raised more than $9.1 million. The goal is to raise another $7 million over the next three years.
