BAY CITY, Mich. – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) is undergoing a staff-restructuring period with the addition of a new staff member and intern.
GLIAC Commissioner Dell Robinson announced the hiring of Chris Roekle to the position of Director of Strategic Communication. Roekle began his duties with the GLIAC on June 2, 2014 and will focus on communication efforts with an emphasis on social media. Chris returns to the league after spending the 2013-14 academic year as a Graduate Media Relations Intern at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to the Huskers, he interned two seasons at Saginaw Valley State University.
In his time at Nebraska, Roekle coordinated media efforts for the 2013 Big Ten champion women’s soccer team and served as Co-Host Media Coordinator for the 2014 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament Regional in Lincoln. Chris also composed several men’s basketball releases during NU’s run to the NCAA Tournament and ran social media efforts at Nebraska’s home baseball contests.
Roekle will take over communications efforts from Associate Commissioner Jeff Ligney who will transition into the role of Director of Internal Operations. Ligney, who is in his 15th year at the conference offices, will now oversee financial and budgeting efforts along with his current Associate Commissioner tasks.
Danielle Harris will now assume Senior Women’s Administrator duties to go along with her responsibilities as the Assistant Commissioner for Compliance and Championships as she enters her second full year with the league.
Robinson has also announced the hiring of Sarah Twiggs as the Intern for External Relations. Twiggs served as the graduate assistant for Ohio Dominican University in the Sports Information Department for the last two years. She graduated with her masters this past May with a degree in business administration. Twiggs will begin her duties on July 14.
“We are pleased to restructure our staff and align our personnel with their individual talents,” commented Commissioner Robinson. “The staff members will help the conference address issues that are essential to our strategic plan.”
