Commissioner Robinson to Receive Ohio University Distinguished Service Award

ATHENS, Ohio -- Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner Dell Robinson has been selected to receive the 2014 Ohio University Alumni Distinguished Service Award. Robinson will be presented with the award at the Annual Alumni Awards Gala this Friday, October 10 in conjunction with homecoming weekend.

From 2002 to 2008 Robinson served on the Association’s Board of Directors, including two years as chair. He was also a member of the Ohio University Board of Trustees. He serves on the Executive Advisory Board for the College of Business, and represented Ohio as a clinical staff member for the Global Consulting Program in Ancona, Italy.

Robinson is in his fifth year as Commissioner for the GLIAC, and is the first African-American commissioner of a historically non-Black Division II conference. Before joining GLIAC, Robinson spent ten years at the Mid-American Conference (MAC), three years at the Western Athletic Conference and five years at the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

A first-generation college student at Ohio, Robinson was president of Omega Psi Fraternity and remains actively involved with the fraternity. He was a walk-on to the Bobcat football team and worked on campus as a peer advisor.

Since the first formal alumni award was presented over 75 years ago, the Ohio University Alumni Association has continually presented awards to accomplished alumni and friends each year. Our goal is to pay tribute to alumni and friends for outstanding achievement and/or service to Ohio University, the Ohio University Alumni Association, their communities, and/or their professions. Selected by the Alumni Board of Directors, there are five different award categories which can be awarded on an annual basis.
