CLEVELAND – In the final Division II winter Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup Standings, Grand Valley State (GVSU) leads the way with 715.00 total points, while Stanford remains the Division I leader following the swimming and diving and wrestling championships, and the fencing and women’s hockey national collegiate championships.
After finishing second in the fall, GVSU tallied four top-10 performances, led by a runner-up finish in women’s track and field and fourth-place performance from the men. The Lakers other top-10 performances came in men’s swimming and diving (5th) and women’s basketball (9th), while women’s swimming and diving placed 11th in and men’s basketball finished 33rd. Fall leader, Colorado School of Mines, closed the winter in second with 523.50 total points, led by a 12th-place finish in men’s track and field. The Orediggers also notched a 27th-place performance in women’s track and field and a trifecta of top-45 finishes – men’s basketball (33rd), wrestling (39th) and women’s swimming and diving (42nd).
Guided by team titles in men’s and women’s swimming and diving Queens (NC) remains third in the final winter standings with 521.00 total points. Queens national championships in swimming and diving are accompanied by a fifth-place finish in men’s basketball, 13th-place finish from the men’s track and field team and a 39th-place showing in wrestling. West Texas A&M climbs into fourth overall following strong performances from men’s basketball (5th) and women’s track and field (7th). The Buffs placed 17th in women’s basketball and 19th in women’s track and field to tally 455.50 total points. Rounding out the top-five is UC San Diego with 422.50 total points. The Tritons landed in the top-10 twice – women’s swimming in diving (6th) and men’s swimming and diving (10th) – claimed a 13th-place finish in fencing and tallied a pair of 17th-place performances in men’s and women’s basketball.
At the conference level, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) still leads all Division II conference with three institutions (Colorado School of Mines, Adams State (6th; 407.00 pts.) and Colorado Mesa (9th; 380.50 pts.) inside the top-10.
For the GLIAC, Ashland is 13th, Saginaw Valley State 32nd, Northern Michigan 36th, Ferris State 45th, Wayne State 60th, Michigan Tech 87th and Northwood 163rd.
Stanford, with 930.25 total points remains in control of Division I in the latest winter update guided by a championship performance from women’s swimming and diving, a 12th-place finish in fencing, a 15th-place finish in men’s swimming and diving and a 40th-place showing in wrestling.
The Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
