Kyle Cooper // Basketball // Hillsdale

Even as he starts preparations for his senior season of basketball next year, Hillsdale College’s Kyle Cooper received one more honor following his outstanding junior season.

Cooper earned the GLIAC Commissioner’s Award for the Winter 2014-15 season. He is one of three recipients from Hillsdale College this season and one of 12 named by the conference overall.

Cooper was joined by women’s basketball player Megan Fogt and women’s track athlete Emily Oren in being recognized by the GLIAC with one of its most prestigious all-around awards for the winter season.

The commissioner’s award, handed out since 2007-08, goes to student-athletes who carry an overall grade point average of at least 3.5, are a junior or a senior and are a top contributor on their teams.

An accounting major and a First-Team All-GLIAC player, Cooper certainly meets those qualifications. He was the only player in the Midwest Region to average more than 20 points and 10 rebounds per game during the season. He was second in the GLIAC in scoring and was easily the conference rebounding champion. After the season, Cooper garnered First-Team All-Region honors from both Daktronics and the NABC. He also became the first player in Charger men’s basketball history to be named CoSIDA Capital One First-Team Academic All-American.

He has one of the top five overall grade point averages among all Hillsdale College student-athletes. He is form Northville, Michigan and attended high school at Detroit Catholic Central.
