Grand Valley State senior swimmer Gianni Ferrero (Idstein, Germany) has been selected as a GLIAC Commissioners Award winner. Ferrero captured the 2016 NCAA Division II National Champion in the 100 butterfly in a school-record time of 45.56. In addition, Ferrero earned six all-america honors at 2016 NCAA Championships and scored 68.5 points in four individual events. He finished second in the 200 IM and 200 butterfly in school-record times of 1:45.53 and 1:45.07, while placing fourth in the 200 backstroke. The  2016 GLIAC Swimming of the Year, Ferrero won four individual events at 2016 GLIAC Championships and guided GVSU to the 2016 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championship. Ferrero was a four-time GLIAC Academic All-Excellence team honoree and a four-time CSCAA Academic honoree. Ferrero concluded his career as a 17-time NCAA DII Swimming & Diving All-American. Ferrero maintains a 3.79 GPA in business administration.
