GLIAC Supervisor of Baseball Umpires - Bruce Doane

Bruce Doane

Bruce Doane Jr. was named GLIAC Supervisor of Baseball Umpires in the Fall of 2018.

Doane has served as a supervisor of baseball umpires for the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (NAIA) and Michigan Junior College Athletic Association since 1993, and he added the Crossroads League (NAIA) to his resume in 2005.

Doane is committed to helping new and experienced umpires develop their skills. He assembles staff, and oversees instruction and curriculum for three umpire development camps annually.

Doane stepped away from the field to transition more fully into a supervisor role after umpiring for 40 years at all levels of baseball. He was instrumental in creating this camp along with his father, the late Bruce Doane Sr., for whom his camp is named. Bruce attended Kinnamon, Wendelstedt, and Brinkman Umpire Schools and has worked at all levels of amateur baseball and independent league baseball. He has umpired high school baseball in both Michigan and Georgia. During his time on the field, Doane worked 10 conference tournaments in the Mid-American and Big Ten Conferences. He has also umpired post season at the JUCO and NAIA levels, including working four NAIA World Series. He umpired in the Frontier League for 17 years.

Locally, Bruce is the assignor of umpires for both the West Michigan Umpire Association and the Grand Rapids Umpire Alliance. He is retired from the restaurant business and resides in Grand Rapids.
