Basketball Teams to Host Pink Wave Event

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University men’s and women’s basketball teams along with other Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member schools will be playing to support breast cancer on the final weekend of the regular season. The Wildcats host Northwood on Feb. 23 and Saginaw Valley State on Feb. 25.

The women’s basketball game on Thursday against the Timberwolves tips off at 5:30p.m. with the men to follow at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, the women host the Cardinals at 11 a.m. with the men tipping off at 1 p.m.

Both teams will be wearing pink shoe laces and pink warm-ups for the games. In addition, there will be canister collections available at the Berry Events Center entrances each day to raise funds for the event.

This event is put on by the GLIAC in collaboration with the Women’s Basketball Association’s “Play 4Kay” to host the “GLIAC Pink Wave.” The events are in effort to raise breast cancer awareness and funds to help Wipe Out Breast Cancer. GLIAC schools will be participating throughout the month of February.
