UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University Athletic Department hosted its fourth-annual 'Breast Cancer Survivor Recognition' event on Saturday, Feb. 18th. The event was held in conjunction with the women's and men's basketball games against Hillsdale College and the GLIAC's Pink Wave initiative.
The basketball teams and their staff showed their support by wearing special pink uniforms and warm-up T-shirts. 'Pink Wave' shirts were sold and the funds raised were contributed to the Covenant HealthCare Foundation Breast Health Center CARE Fund, which was developed to assist uninsured women in receiving early diagnosis screening, ultra sound, breast biopsy and breast MRI's.
The event raised $3,092, the most of any one-day event since its inception in 2009. SVSU's contributions to-date total $12,611.
Each survivor received a 'Pink Wave' t-shirt and attended a dinner reception prior to the women's basketball game. The 61 survivors were also acknowledged at halftime of the women's game as each individual was introduced and escorted to center court by a member of the Cardinal men's basketball team, where they were greeted by our sponsors and received a gift basket filled with donated items.
