The Tiffin University volleyball team dropped a pair of games on Friday at the Midwest Crossover Tournament. Tiffin fell 3-0 to Drury University and 3-1 to Hillsdale College.

Tiffin University vs. Drury University

The Dragons played the Panthers tough in the first set, holding a 18-16 lead. Then it unraveled for Tiffin as the Panthers finished the set on a 9-4 run to take the opening set 25-22. The Panthers controlled the second set, but couldn't distance themselves from Tiffin. The Dragons hung around, but couldn't find the run needed to overtake Drury as they fell 25-22 to go down 0-2.

In the final set, the Panthers roared down the stretch, as they finished the final set on a 14-7 run to down the Dragons 25-17 and 3-0. The Dragons had their worst hitting percentage in the final set, registering eight kills and eight errors.

Individually, Kasey Adelsperger was the only Dragon to register double digit kills, nailing down 10. Loryn Huffman and Emily Weithman each logged 14 assists, and Taylor Lattimore finished with 15 digs.

Tiffin University vs. Hillsdale College

Tiffin drew another tough customer in their second game of the day, taking on the 16-3 Chargers of Hillsdale College. Tiffin weathered the early onslaught by the Chargers attack, and held a lead at the midway point of the 1st set. But, as in their earlier match of the day, Tiffin was unable to hold on as the Chargers took the opening set 25-19.

The Chargers bolted out to a big lead in the second set, holding an early 8-2 margin. The lead shrank by a few points, but not enough for Tiffin to tie or take the lead as Hillsdale took the second set 25-19.

The third set was the most productive for Tiffin all day on the offensive end, hitting at a .316 clip. Tiffin's slim 10-8 lead in the set quickly vanished as the Chargers found themselves out in front at 17-16. The Dragons were able to rally and regain the lead as they held off Hilldale to preserve a 25-22 win.

The final set was hard fought by both sides as it took extra points to decide the winner. Tiffin's set three momentum carried over into the fourth set, clawing their way ahead to a 17-12 lead. The Chargers responded with a flurry of kills to pull within two points at 21-19. Tiffin had two chances to win the fourth set, but were unable to capitalize as the Chargers pulled out a 28-26 set win.

The Dragons had great success at the service line, totaling 10 aces. The Dragons did see their hardships at the net, posting a team hitting percentage of only .164. Individually, Jenna Huffman was her usual self, compiling 16 kills, 11 digs, and 3.5 blocks. Sydney Gilland had a nice game for Tiffin, hammering 10 kills and posting a .375 hitting percentage.

The Dragons now sit 10-9 overall and will finish up Crossover play tomorrow with a game against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
