Oilers Earn 46-28 Win on Homecoming

The University of Findlay football team hosted Hillsdale College on Saturday, October 15 for their 2016 Homecoming game.  The Oilers built a 34-0 halftime lead and finished off the Chargers with a final score of 46-28 to improve to 3-4 on the season and in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers jumped out to a 40-0 lead early into the third quarter before the Chargers were able to get anything going on offense.  Hillsdale finally got their first points of the day at the 10:28 mark in the third quarter on a 65 yard touchdown pass.

Findlay answered with their last score of the contest late in the third quarter to extend the lead 46-7.  Hillsdale would add another score before the end of the third quarter and finished the game with two scoring drives in the fourth for a 46-28 final score.

Junior Chauncey Bridges had 193 yards and three touchdowns on the ground for Findlay and junior Rhys Gervais connected on 23 of 34 passes for 249 yards and three TDs.  Junior Jason Moore was the top target for Gervais, as he hauled in nine receptions for 107 yards and all three touchdowns through the air.

Sophomore defensive back Francis Cutchember led Findlay with 11 total tackles while senior Myles Alexander added 10 total tackles with 1.5 sacks.  Freshman Justin Ellis recorded 2.5 sacks in the game and senior Brad Fenton had an interception for the Oilers.

Findlay travels to Tiffin University on Saturday, October 22 for their next GLIAC contest with a 1:30 p.m. start time.
