DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (5-5 overall, 5-5 GLIAC) fell, 5-4, to Saginaw Valley State (6-3 overall, 6-3 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon at the WSU Tennis Courts in Midtown Detroit.
DOUBLES RESULTS
- Senior pair in
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) and
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) topped Abigail Shonk and Taylor McLaughlin, 8-4, at the third doubles flight. The duo boasts a 6-2 doubles record this season.
- Sophomores
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and
Liv Peisachovitz (Vaughan, Ont.) lost, 8-3, to Ana Pico Garcia and Shea Donahue at No. 1 doubles, while junior
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil) and freshman
Julia Walz (Rastatt, Germany) were defeated, 8-1, by Izabella Ismailova and Danielle Slonac at the second doubles position.
SINGLES RESULTS
- Hughes posted a two-set victory (6-3, 6-2) over Madeline Miller at the sixth singles flight, and Kuznetsova won, 6-4, 7-5, over Ismailova at No. 1 singles.
- Walz beat Slonac in three sets (6-3, 1-6, 6-3) at the fourth singles position, while Peisachovitz recorded a three set loss (4-6, 6-1, 6-1) to Pico Garcia at the second singles flight.
- Ghellere lost, 7-6(2), 6-2, to Donahue at No. 3 singles, and sophomore
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont.) fell in two sets (6-2, 6-0) to McLaughlin at the fifth singles position.
UP NEXT
- The Warriors will conclude their seven-match home stand and the regular season on Oct. 19 against Hillsdale. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
