The Malone University softball team suffered 13-1 (five innings) and 17-5 defeats during its final GLIAC doubleheader at Ferris State University (MI) on Saturday afternoon.
Malone will conclude its season on Tuesday, April 26
th at Salem International University in Salem, West Virginia.
Game One Recap:
Ferris State wasted no time scoring as they collected 10 runs during the first three innings to take a commanding 10-0 lead.
Malone grabbed their only run in the top of the fourth inning when
Ashley Beck doubled to right field, allowing
Alexa Holztrager to score.
The Bulldogs registered three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to win 13-1 in five innings.
Holztrager went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, while adding a run scored and a double.
Ashley Beck tallied one hit, a RBI, and a double.
Game Two Recap:
Game two started completely different for the Pioneers as
Mikayla Fowler,
Alexa Holztrager, and
Emily Isla all started the game with singles. Next up in the batting order was third baseman
Ashley Beck who blasted a grand slam to put Malone ahead 4-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
Ferris State cranked out five runs in the top of the third inning to take the 5-4 lead.
The Bulldogs never looked back as they belted out four runs in the fifth and eight runs in the top of the seventh inning to make it a 17-4 contest.
Malone added another run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Holztrager singled up the middle, driving
Taylor Lauer to home plate.
Ferris State would take game two by the final score of 17-5.
Ashley Beck recorded her first career grand slam.
Emily Isla went 3-for-4 at the plate and notched a run scored.
