The Malone University women's soccer team posted an exciting 1-0 victory on the road against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent Northwood University (MI) Friday afternoon.
The Pioneers and Timberwolves battled it out in the first half as the score remained 0-0 at intermission. NU held the slight advantage in shots in the first half, tallying seven to Malone's five.
The score would remain deadlocked at 0-0 throughout the second half, until sophomore
Christine Najjar drilled a header into the net off a free kick from the left side to make it a 1-0 lead with six minutes remaining. Freshmen
Kaela Kovonda was credited with the assist, her second on the season. Najjar now has three goals on the year.
Malone finished with 10 shots on goal to Northwood's three.
This is the first road conference victory the women's soccer team has recorded since joining the GLIAC back in 2012.
Malone will return to action on Sunday as it hosts Ohio Dominican University at 2 p.m.
