The Malone University softball team lost both games on the road to non-conference opponent Alderson Broaddus University (WV) Wednesday night by the final scores of 6-5 and 3-0.
Malone will return home to start conference play against Grand Valley State University (MI) on Saturday, March 28th, at 1:00 p.m.
Game 1The Pioneers would be the first team to jump on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. First basemen
Allison Mercado would continue with the momentum as she singled to center field to drive home
Emily Isla and
Alexa Holztrager to increase the lead to 3-0 in the top of the third.
Center fielder
Emily Beck registered her first solo home run of the season in the top of the fifth inning to lift Malone's lead to 4-0.
Alderson Broaddus didn't back down as they scored two runs in the sixth inning and two in the seventh inning to tie the game at 4-4.
Going into the eighth inning, Malone would successfully score a run to take the lead 5-4.
The Battlers would also score in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game 5-5. They would then score again in the bottom of the ninth inning to seal the 6-5 victory.
Mercado went 2-for-4 at the plate and collected two RBIs.
Game 2Alderson Broaddus continued with the momentum tallying three runs in the bottom of the first.
The three runs by the Battlers would be all the scoring that happened in the game.
Beck would go a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate.
