#18 Oilers Survive and Advance | Win 67-59

The University of Findlay men's basketball, ranked 18th in the nation, team held of Grand Valley State University in the opening round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament, winning 67-59 on Feb. 28 in Croy Gymnasium. The win improves the Oilers record to 23-5 on the year.

The Oilers only shot 39.7 percent (23-of-58) from the floor in the game, but made 14-of-19 (73.7%) of their attempts from the free throw line. The Lakers meanwhile shot 43.4 percent (23-of-53) from the floor and turned the ball over 14 times in the game.

Junior forward Taren Sullivan led the Oilers with 19 points and 12 rebounds while junior guard Martyce Kimbrough had 16 points and three assists.

Junior guard Elijah Kahlig also played well in the victory, scoring 15 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists.

Senior forward Tyler Stern-Tucker contributed seven points and six rebounds while senior guard Ricardo Smith stuffed the stat sheet with two points, seven rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block.

Juwan Starks led the Lakers with 16 points on the strength of a 4-of-5 showing from three point range.

The Oilers will now head to Big Rapids, Mich. for the semifinals and finals of the GLIAC Tournament, which will take place on March 4-5. They will face Ashland University on March 4 at 5:00 p.m.
