ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (3-1 overall, 2-1 GLIAC) traveled to Ashland University (1-4 overall, 0-3 GLIAC) on Saturday and defeated the Eagles, 5-2.
DOUBLES RECAP
Freshman
Laura Cazacu (London, England) and sophomore
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) played at one doubles, winning against opponents Anna Hart and Brianna Brdicka (6-3).
Next off the court were sophomores
Irena van Meer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and
Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne). Â At three doubles, the Warriors gained a second win for the team against Huntyr Lake and Hazuki Ogino (6-2).
Earning the last doubles win for WSU, seniors
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont.) had a close match against Gabriella Hudec and Camille Ringot (7-5).
SINGLES RECAP
At two singles, Liong played a strong winning match against Brdicka (6-1, 6-0).
Cazacu swept her Eagles opponent Ringot at three singles (6-0, 6-0).
Kuznetsova retired due to injury in her one singles match against Hudec. Â She was down, 6-5, before ending the match.
At five singles, freshman
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) clinched the match for the Warriors, defeating Allison Brooks (6-1, 6-1).
Douglas had a close first set against four singles opponent Hart, but put it away in the second set (7-6 (6), 6-1).
Ciellza was the last off the court at six singles. Â She fell short in a tight third set against Ashland's Ogino (6-1, 3-6, 6-4).
