Volleyball Sweeps on Senior Day

The Warriors won by scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-16.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball program (15-12, 10-6 GLIAC) snapped a three-match losing streak on Saturday with a three-set victory over Purdue Northwest (6-25, 1-15 GLIAC) inside the Matthaei.  The four-member senior class of Karen Sidge (White Lake, Mich. / Howell), Michelle Asiedu (Holland, Ohio / Springfield), Madison Kielty (Plymouth, Mich. / Canton) and Hannah Moore (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption) were recognized prior to the start of the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A combo block from Christa Raicevich (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North) and Grace Frazee (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) gave WSU a 6-3 lead early in the first set.  The home lead grew to 16-8 after a kill by Madelyn Krenz (Chenoa, Ill. / Prairie Central).  A 3-1 run by the Pride trimmed the deficit to 21-14 but the Warriors won the final four points, including kills by Frazee and Julia Malewicz (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies / Henry Ford II).

- Frazee continued her strong match with a kill in the second set to put WSU up 10-5.  Another kill from Frazee and a block from the junior pushed the Green & Gold's lead to 18-12.  PNW pulled within one at 18-17 but Wayne State won seven of the final eight points to secure the set, 25-18.

- WSU jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the third set and Asiedu extended the lead to 10-5 with a kill.  Raicevich kept the momentum with WSU with a point, extending the advantage to 17-9.  The Warriors would go on to win 25-16.  The match ended on a service ace from Malewicz.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
- Frazee posted a match-high 11 kills, hitting .647 on 17 swings.  Sidge dished out 39 assists, while Ellie Rodriguez (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Catholic Central) tallied 12 digs.

UP NEXT
- The Warriors will make their second straight trip to the GLIAC Tournament.  WSU enters the field as the fifth seed and will meet the fourth seed, which is yet to be determined.
