Oilers Grind Out 78-69 Win Over Storm

The University of Findlay men's basketball team grinded out a 78-69 win over Lake Erie College on Jan. 23 in Croy Gymnasium for their seventh straight win. The victory gives the Oilers a 12-5 record on the season with a 9-3 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Oilers fell behind by a score of 39-32 at the break and were tied at 61-61 with only 5:15 remaining. Findlay then went on an 8-0 run to take a 69-61 lead with under two minutes to play. They would increase their lead to as many as 11 points down the stretch before settling for a nine-point victory.

As a team, the Oilers shot 50.9 percent (28-of-55) from the floor and held the Storm to a 42.6 percent (26-of-61) shooting clip. They also hit 7-of-19 (36.8%) shot attempts from behind the three point line and canned eight more free throws than the Storm in the win.

Sophomore forward Taren Sullivan led the Oilers with a career-high 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting. He made 8-of-9 attempts from the charity stripe and also chipped in four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough also reached double figures with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting while fellow sophomore guard Austin Gardner had a season-high nine points to go along with four assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Senior forward John Staley added nine points while freshman forward Alex White provided eight points and six rebounds off the bench. Senior guard Dylan Kaufman played a great all-around game and ended the afternoon with five points, six assists and four rebounds.

The Storm received 14 points from Roy Alexander while Andy Bosley and Sean Howard each scored 13.

The Oilers will be back in Croy again on Jan. 28 when they host Walsh University at 7:30 p.m.
