Women's Basketball Tops Tiffin On Road 66-62

The Malone University women's basketball team topped GLIAC opponent Tiffin University in a 66-62 road win on Thursday night.

With the win, the Pioneers lifted their record to 7-8 overall and to 5-6 in GLIAC play while the Dragons dropped to 4-13 overall and 3-8 in the conference.

In the first half, the host Dragons took control of the contest by opening up a 22-10 lead with 8:35 left in the period before Malone started to pull back to within striking distance.  Over that final eight-plus minutes, the Pioneers kept trimming their deficit and eventually tied the score at 32-32 by the intermission.

The only lead change of the game came at the outset of the second half as Malone's Lindsy Snyder made a layup to give the Pioneers' a 34-32 advantage, one they would never relinquish.  And although the Dragons couldn't take back the lead, they did stay right with Malone, trailing just 47-46 with 12:03 left, before the Pioneers pulled out to a 60-49 advantage on a Kristen Massey jumper with 6:49 remaining.  The 11-point Malone lead, the Pioneers' largest of the game, was trimmed to 65-62 with just 39 seconds  as the hosts went on a 13-5 run to keep the game in doubt.  The Pioneers posted the win, though, as Massey hit the first of two free throws with 11 seconds left followed by an offensive rebound by forward Sarah Bardall before Malone ran out the clock for the four-point win.

For Malone, a big highlight on the night was a game-high 10-rebound effort by Snyder who has now moved into sixth-place all-time at Malone with 714 career boards (surpassing Misty Smith who has 711).  Snyder also tallied six points on the night.

Guard Rachel Goddard led the way for Malone with a game-high 17 points while three other Pioneers followed with nine points each.  Massey tallied nine while adding six rebounds, guard Alyssa Brandon chipped in nine, all on three-pointers, and guard Alahna Singleton had nine plus four boards. In addition, guard Audrey Myers tossed in eight points, including a two-for-two effort from long range.

Deidre McKay and Kaylee Patton led Tiffin with 12 points each while Jessica Farr and Anya Misko paced the Dragons in rebounds with seven each.

Malone will be back in action on Saturday when the squad hosts Ohio Dominican University (5-12, 2-9 GLIAC) in a 1:00 p.m. contest.  Live stats and live video will be available.
