SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.- The Lake Superior State men's basketball team will open the new year with a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) game against Davenport on Thursday, Jan. 2 in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. tip off.

The Lakers (5-6, 2-1 GLIAC)

The Lakers look to snap a three game losing streak and continue to improve on the 5-6 overall record that the team compiled in the first half of the season. In conference play, the Lakers hold a 2-1 record. Lake Superior is led by senior forward Ke'Montrece Collins who ranks eighth in the conference with 16.8 points per game this season while his 7.5 rebounds per game is good for fifth in the GLIAC. Collins, who was named GLIAC North Division Player of the Week earlier this season, has recorded 20 or more points in five of the Lakers 11 games this season. Freshman Nigel Colvin ranks second on the team with an average of 9.5 points per game while sophomore C.J. Robinson (9.3 ppg) and freshman Xander Okerlund (9.1 ppg) have also been steady contributors for the Lakers. Sophomore guard Justin Fischer leads the team in assists per game with 4.5 and ranks third on the team in rebounds 4.3.

The Lakers are averaging 79.6 points per game this season with a 43.2 shooting percentage and 33.8 rebounds per game.

Davenport University Panthers (9-4, 1-2 GLIAC)

The Panthers head into Thursday's game on a two game win streak, winning their last game on Dec. 21 at Trevecca Nazarene. Davenport holds a 9-4 overall record but has only recorded one conference win this season in GLIAC play. The Panthers are led by redshirt junior Evan Hines who has averaged 13.8 points per game through 13 games this season. Davenport's offense has been evenly distributed as the team has three more players who average more than 10 points per game - Chris Rollins (13.2 ppg), Robbie Bramhill (11.0 ppg) and Tafari Beckford (10.8 ppg). Beckford has also been strong defensively for the Panthers as he leads the team with 6.3 rebounds per game. Davenport is led by Head Coach Burt Paddock, who is in his 12th season in the role and led the Panthers to the GLIAC Regular Season Championship last season.

Davenport is averaging 78.2 points per game in 2019-20 with a 45.2 shooting percentage and 34.9 rebounds per game.
