Volleyball Drops Match at Tiffin

Hailey Richardson and Emily Norscia combined for 32 kills.

TIFFIN, Ohio -- With its sights set on hosting a home GLIAC Tournament game on Nov. 16th, the Wayne State University volleyball team (19-9, 10-6 GLIAC) fell in four sets at Tiffin (19-11, 9-7 GLIAC) on Thursday night.

WSU clinched a berth in the GLIAC Tournament with its win over Walsh on Nov. 5th but is currently on the outside looking in regarding hosting a home postseason match.  However, a win over Ashland on Friday would go a long way in securing the first round of postseason play since 2012 will be inside the Matthaei.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Emily Norscia (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill) cut WSU's deficit to 8-4 in the first set after a kill and Hailey Richardson (New Boston, Mich. / Huron) kept the Green & Gold close at 10-6 with a point of her own.  The Dragons were the first team to 20, leading 20-13 and eventually won the set 25-19.

• Tiffin led the second set 6-3 following a kill from TU's Olivia Cobb.  Mikayla Shell (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington) put WSU on top 13-12 with a kill.  Haley Tenelshof (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Jenison) delivered an ace to keep the Warriors' lead in tact at 16-14.  However, the Dragons ended the set on an 11-3 run to take a 2-0 match lead.

• A kill from Brittany Guldan (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) in the third set trimmed TU's lead to 11-6.  The home squad led 23-21 before WSU won five of the last six points to stave off the sweep with a 26-24 victory.

• Richardson broke a 9-9 tie in the fourth set with a kill.  WSU continued to lead 19-17 after a point from Michelle Asiedu (Holland, Ohio / Springfield).  Avery Punches (Rockford, Mich.) put WSU within two points of tying the match at 2-2 with a kill but Tiffin would comeback and even the game at 23-23.  The set was tied at 28-28 before the Dragons won the final two points to win the match 3-1.

UP NEXT
• Wayne State wil conclude the regular season at Ashland on Friday at 7 p.m.
