Huskies Tie Storm 1-All in Ohio

PAINESVILLE, Ohio — Michigan Tech played to a 1-1 draw at Lake Erie today in GLIAC women's soccer. The teams traded goals in the final seven minutes of regulation and played scoreless through overtime to each earn their first tie of the season.

Tech held a 10-5 advantage in shots in the opening half and a 23-10 margin for the game.

Janelle Riedl scored her second goal of the season in the 84th minute. Jacqueline Mielke fed her the ball in the box, and Riedl finished despite the goalkeeper getting a piece of the shot.

The lead last less than two minutes, however. Ashley Pryce converted a rebound to tie the game in the 86th minute.

The Huskies had two shots on goal in overtime and held the Storm without a shot.

LEC goalkeeper Sarah Stroope made 11 saves in the game. Tech keeper Jenna Phelps had four.

"Lake Erie capitalized on their opportunities, and their goalkeeper played extremely well, especially on balls in the air," said Huskies coach Michelle Jacob. "I was pleased with our effort. I thought we played a pretty good game overall."

Tech returns from its two-game road trip to Ohio with 7-1-1 overall record and 5-0-1 GLIAC mark. The Huskies next match comes Friday (Oct. 17) vs. Findlay at Sherman Field.
