HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech earned a 76-59 victory over Tiffin in GLIAC men's basketball today to complete a weekend sweep and start the new year 2-0. Dillon Gordon scored a career-high 21 points, and the Huskies held the Dragons to 36 percent shooting to even their league record at 3-3.

Tech (4-6 overall) got off to a good start with a 14-4 lead through the first seven minutes. Tiffin scored just six points in the first eight and a half minutes of the contest.

The Black and Gold took a 34-25 lead into halftime, but the Dragons battled back within 42-36 with 15:49 showing in the second frame.

TU (6-7, 2-4 GLIAC) would go nearly nine minutes without a field goal, allowing the Huskies to push their lead up to 18.

Jeff Gregory and Gordon hit consecutive 3-pointers with five minutes to play to really seal the Dragons' fate.

"It's really nice to sweep the weekend," said Tech coach Kevin Luke. "We played hard defensively and held both opponents in the 50s. I'm especially happy with this win because we've struggled this season with the second game of a two-game set. Today, we had our legs under us and shot the ball well."

Gordon scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half, connecting on numerous floaters and all four of his free throws. Bryan Heath tallied 17 points with the help of 9-of-10 free throw shooting. Kyle Monroe was the only other Husky in double figures with 12 points to go with team highs of six rebounds and four assists.

Tech shot 53 percent from the floor, scoring 34 of its 76 points in the paint. Tiffin held a 36-30 rebounding advantage.

Michigan Tech will play its next four games on the road starting with a Thursday (Jan. 7) tilt at Lake Erie. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
