Cardinals Top Oilers 68-62

The University of Findlay women's basketball team lost 68-62 against Saginaw Valley State University on Jan. 8 in University Center, Mich. The loss gives the Oilers a 6-5 record on the season with a 2-5 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers held a 10-point lead midway through the second half at 51-41, but were out-scored by a 27-11 in the final 11 minutes of the game.

Findlay shot 43.6 percent (24-of-55) from the floor and converted 8-of-17 (47.1%) shot attempts from long range. The Cardinals meanwhile hit 45.1 percent (23-of-51) of their field goal attempts and drained 9-of-20 (45%) attempts from behind the three point line.

Senior guard Ciara Geiger paced the Oilers offense with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting while freshman guard Haley Horstman, sophomore guard Karli Bonar and junior forward Kelsey Lewis had nine points apiece.

Lewis added a team-high seven rebounds while Horstman had three assists, two rebounds and two steals.

Senior guard Nikki Gunning had eight points, four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals off the bench while junior forward Margaret Wuebker chipped in six points, five boards and three steals.

The Cardinals were led by Emily Wendling, who had 15 points and 13 boards.

The Oilers will be at Hillsdale College on Saturday for another tough GLIAC contest on the road. The game is scheduled to tip at 1 p.m.
