DETROIT – The Wayne State University men's tennis team (5-2 overall) got back to its winning ways on Sunday, defeating guest Hillsdale 8-1 in the first home match of the 2018 season.

Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich.) and freshman
Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) were all double-winners against the Chargers.
DOUBLES RESULTS
The Warriors earned a sweep of doubles contests. At No. 1, Westkamp and Vane won 8-1 over Charlie Adams and Justin Hyman. Mertz and Reed were second flight winners, claiming an 8-6 win over Dugan Delp and John Ciraci. In the third flight, Karcz and sophomore
Derek Sammons claimed an 8-3 triumph over Julien Clouette and Milan Mirkovic.
SINGLES RESULTS
Westkamp, Vane, Mertz, and Karcz all earned wins in the first four flights, respectively. Westkamp defeated Mirkovic (6-2, 6-0), while Vane won over Adams (6-3, 6-2), Mertz defeated Hyman (6-4, 6-4) and Karcz claimed a victory over Ciraci (6-2, 7-6).
Reed was the final winner for WSU, taking a 6-1, 5-7, 10-6 win over Michael Szabo in the fifth flight.
Sammons fell in three sets to Delp in the fifth flight (6-3, 0-6, 10-8).

The Warriors will stay at home on Friday, taking on Northwestern Ohio in the first match of a men's-women's doubleheader against the Racers. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
