TU dispatches Lawrence Tech 6-2

The first win of the 2016 season came at the PM Gillmor Tennis Courts  on Wednesday with a 6-2 (1 match dnf) victory over the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech.

TU started off strong with a big 3-0 lead in doubles that gave them huge confidence heading into singles.  After a brief delay due to weather the Dragons were back on the court and back to their dominating ways continuing where they left off from doubles play.

Doubles started off strong with a convincing 8-2 victory at 2nd doubles via the new tandem of Lezama and freshman Andrew Issac.  The two were followed up by two close sets that were won by a lone break of serve with TU edging out Lawrence Tech 8-6 in both affairs.  Ludena and Cutting received their first win of the season with an 8-6 victory over Sergio Lopez and Javier Alvarez while Justin Kopronica and Agustin Mangone took down  Vincent Colarossi and Stijn Bremer of Lawrench Tech.

The match was cutting it close due to light restrictions, but TU wasn't going to let this one slip away due to lack of light.  TU won 3 of the 5 singles matches with one match ending due to light with TU being up a set 6-4.  TU was led by freshman Andrew Isaac at 3rd singles winning 6-1, 6-3 for his first win as a Dragon.  TU's captain Mangone stepped up at 5th singles with a solid 6-3, 6-3 victory and Kopronica dominated as usual with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at 6th singles.  TU dropped 1st singles as Sergio Lopez defeated Luis Ludena 6-2, 6-3 and Cutting retired after dropping the first set 6-4.

TU is now 1-1 on the season and will travel to West Liberty this weekend for a tournament in preparation for the ITA Tournament the following weekend.
