Oilers Cruise Past Tiffin, Win 85-54

The University of Findlay men's basketball team cruised to an 85-54 win over Tiffin University on Jan. 17 in Croy Gymnasium. The win gives the Oilers a 7-7 record on the season with a 4-6 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers jumped out to a 42-13 lead at the break and never looked back. They shot 55.6 percent (30-of-54) from the floor and canned a season-high 13-of-25 (52%) of their three point tries in the game. They also held a 41-29 advantage on the boards and dished out 19 assists.

Freshman guard Elijah Kahlig led the way with a career-high 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting. He also connected on a career-high 6-of-8 attempts from behind the three point line and added four rebounds in the win.

Senior forward Jake Heagen recorded 16 points, five rebounds and three steals while junior guard Dylan Kaufman came up with 16 points off the bench for Findlay.

Sophomore forward Tyler Stern-Tucker also reached double figures with ten points to go along with six rebounds.

The Oilers two-headed point guard attack of sophomore guard Ricardo Smith and freshman guard Nick Ruthsatz only combined for seven points, but together they dished out 15 assists. Ruthsatz registered a career-high eight assists to go along with five points and five rebounds while Smith had seven assists to go along with five rebounds and two points.

The Dragons, who shot only 35 percent (21-of-60) from the floor, were led by Khaleal McCormick's 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Oilers will travel to Ashland on Jan. 22 for their next game. The game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m. in Kates Gymnasium.
