The Malone University volleyball team made it two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) wins in a row on Friday night as the Pioneers posted a 3-0 home victory over visiting Wayne State University (MI) by the score of 25-23, 25-14, 25-22 in Malone's Osborne Hall.

With the win, Malone improved to 4-7 overall and to 2-4 in the GLIAC while the Warriors dropped to 3-7 and to 1-5 in conference play.

For Malone, a balanced offensive attack, in which five players had five or more kills, was paced by outside hitter Taylor Slauterbeck, who tallied nine kills followed by outside hitters Anna Hays and Elizabeth Maczuzak, who each recorded seven kills. Outside hitter Shelbi Meek pounded down six kills and middle hitter Haley Kool added five more for the Pioneer cause.  Setter Jordan Sollars dished out 22 assists in the three-set match. In addition, defensive specialist Brianna Clegg posted three service aces in the match.

Defensively, Maczuzak led the unit with two solo blocks and four block assists. Slauterbeck paced the Pioneers in digs with eight while defensive specialist/libero Katie Hasebein was right behind with seven.

Malone will be right back in action tomorrow (Saturday) when the Pioneers host a tri-match that includes GLIAC opponent Saginaw Valley State University (MI) and NCAA Div. II #6 Wheeling Jesuit University (WV). Malone will face Saginaw Valley State in a 1:00 p.m. match, Saginaw Valley State will take on Wheeling Jesuit at 3:30 p.m. and finally Malone will compete against Wheeling Jesuit in a 6:00 p.m. contest to close out the day.
