McManaway Pitches No-Hitter In Doubleheader Split

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay softball team faced Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent Lake Superior State University in a doubleheader, which took place on Sunday, April 12 at Anderson Field.  The Oilers won the first game 8-0 in five innings and lost the second game 5-3.  The doubleheader split gives the Oilers a 17-13 record on the season. 

In the first game, Chelsea McManaway dominated on the mound for the Oilers by pitching a no-hitter and striking out seven batters. 

The Oilers bats were firing on all cylinders as they took a commanding 8-0 lead which led to the game finishing in just five innings due to the run rule. 

Katie Dunphy had a big game at the dish for the Oilers finishing with a single, a double and blasted a two-run home run to center field.     

Brooke Scherger also helped lead the offense for the Oilers finishing with two singles, a double, two runs scored and one run batted in.  Megan Turner added two runs batted in and one run scored while Morgan Arnold added a single, a double and one run batted in. 

Allie Cox pinched hit and had an RBI single while Lauren Trumpler also added an RBI single.  Kelsey Borders finished the game with two singles and one run scored.      

In the second game, Nicole Motuza took the loss on the mound for the Oilers as she gave up six hits and four earned runs in two innings. 

The Lakers took a 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning, then the Oilers tied it up in the bottom of the first when Megan Turner launched a three-run home run to left field.  The Lakers knocked in two more runs over the next six innings and the Oilers couldn't muster enough offense as the Lakers claimed a 5-3 victory. 

Brooke Scherger finished the game with two singles and one run scored while Kelley Cejer and Lauren Trumpler each added a single in the contest.     

The Oilers return to the field on Tuesday, April 14 when they travel to Hillsdale, Michigan to face GLIAC rival Hillsdale College in a doubleheader.  The first game is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
