Dragons Raid the Cardinals' Nest

The Tiffin University volleyball team started their weekend road trip the right way, stealing a four set victory over the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals.

The first set gave most the inclination that this matchup was going to be a tight affair, as The Dragons and Cardinals traded leads throughout the first set. Towards the end of the initial set, Tiffin held a six point lead, but the Cardinals fought back to tie the score at 24-all. A pair of kills from youngsters, Danielle Hicks and Jenna Huffman, gave TU a 1-0 lead.

Set two was eerily similar to the 1st set, but this time the Dragons were forced to make the ascent to tie the game at 24-24. Saginaw Valley State finished the set with back to back kills to take set two.

The 3rd set was by far the most dramatic of all, as the two squads refused to give in to the other. Early on, Tiffin held a 7-4 lead, but that quickly evaporated, and the two teams were never separated by more than two point the rest of the set. Tiffin had three set points, but Saginaw Valley State responded . The Cardinals had their opportunities as well, serving two set points. Kasey Adelsperger's kill gave the Dragons a 29-28 lead, and a Cardinal attack error gave Tiffin a 30-28 set three win, and a 2-1 set advantage.

The result of the 3rd set took the fight out of the Cardinals and gave the Dragons a momentum boost. TU rode the wave of momentum to the tune of a 4-0 lead in set four. An 11-6 Cardinal run gave SVSU an 11-10 lead, but that would be the last gasp for Saginaw Valley, as the Dragons rolled right along, cruising to a 25-19 victory.

For the Dragons, Kasey Adelsperger was the leader at the net, clubbing 13 kills. Jenna Huffman continued her assault on GLIAC foes, cranking out 12 kills, Alexandria Miglin chipped in with 11 kills, and Olivia Cobb pounded 10 kills. Emily Weithman finished with 46 assists, while Taylor Lattimore collected 29 digs.

The win moves the Dragons to 8-6 overall and 2-4 in the GLIAC. The Dragons will continue their northern swing, competing against the Lake Superior State Lakers tomorrow afternoon.
