Volleyball Sweeps Lake Superior State

WSU rebounds after Friday's loss to improve to 10-2 overall.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball program (10-2, 3-1 GLIAC) rebounded on Saturday with a sweep of Lake Superior State (1-11, 0-4 GLIAC).  Michelle Asiedu (Holland, Ohio / Springfield) led the way for WSU and collected 13 kills on 16 swings to post an .813 hitting percentage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Avery Punches (Rockford, Mich. / Rockford) and Hannah Moore (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption) collected a pair of kills to give WSU a 5- 2 lead in the opening set.  Hailey Richardson (New Boston, Mich. / Huron) got in on the act on delivered a kill, putting WSU up 10-5.  A point from Mikayla Shell (New Boston, Mich. / Huron) and another kill from Punches kept WSU ahead 15-11.  LSSU cut the deficit to three before the Warriors went on a 4-0 run to take a 23-16 advantage.  Emily Norscia (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill) appeared for the first time this season and promptly tallied a kill and the Green & Gold would win 25-17.

• A dump kill from Brittany Guldan (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) gave WSU a 6-2 lead in the second set.  The home margin grew to 14-6 and eventually 17-7.  Third-year head coach Tim Koth's squad was the first team to 20 and led 20-9 after a kill from Shell.  Asiedu continued her fantastic match with a set-winning kill, to make the final score 25-15.

• The Warriors sprinted out to a 7-3 lead after a point from Guldan.  Moore notched a service ace and Richardson followed with a kill to put WSU on top 17-13.  The Warriors ended the game on a 9-2 run to win 25-15.
