LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (15-7 overall) fell short, 6-3, to Florida Southern to conclude the Warriors' Spring Break trip finale on Tuesday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center in Lakeland, Fla.
DOUBLES RESULTS - Juniors
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) and
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. Southfield) won, 8-2, over Natalija Popovic and Carolyn Cureton at the third doubles flight, while the senior pair of
Alex Poissant (Lavel, Que.) and
Julia Kamenko (Toronto, Ont.) topped Selin Devrimci and Lorena Rionda, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles.
- Freshmen
Liv Peisachovitz (Vaughan, Ont.) and
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) were defeated, 8-3, by Sasha Nionova and Linnea Skymberg at the first doubles position.
SINGLES RESULTS - Hughes notched a two-set victory (6-3, 6-2) over Cureton at the sixth singles flight, while Kuznetsova fell in a 10-8 super tiebreaker (6-4, 3-6) to Devrimci at the third single position.
- Sophomore
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil) lost, 6-4, 6-2, to Rionda at No. 4 singles, and Poissant dropped two sets, 6-1, 6-3, to Nionova at the first singles flight.
- Peisachovitz was bested by Skymberg, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 2 singles, while freshman Astrid Ceiellza (Tecumseh, Ont.) was defeated, 6-2, 6-2, by Popovic at the fifth singles position.
UP NEXT- WSU will travel to Romeoville, Ill. to compete in the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover on March 24-26. Wayne State's first match is slated for 8 a.m. against Maryville on Thursday (March 24).
