Oilers Fall at Northwood | Complete Season

Game 1 | L (8-4) (Box Score)

A day after dropping two games to the league's regular season champion, the Oilers took a first inning lead, their first lead of the series. With two outs, sophomore Derrick Herd doubled to left field and came in to score on a double to right off the bat of senior Peter Yorgen to take a 1-0 advantage.

That lead did not last long as Northwood's first four batters would reach in the bottom of the inning en route to a three run first inning. They added another run in the second and two more in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead.

Findlay cut that lead to 6-3 when freshman Casey Gould roped a double to left field that scored senior Logan Harrah and junior Cameron Johnson, but Northwood would put up two runs of their own to extend their lead to 8-3.

The Oilers did add a single run in the sixth when sophomore Jordan Williams, who singled to lead off the inning, would score on a single to left by junior Josh Schwerer.

Down 8-4, Findlay got a leadoff walk to Harrah, but a double play and strike out ended the game.

Taking the loss on the hill was junior Colin Gossard, who will end the year with a 2-6 record. The Lima, Ohio native tossed 4.2 innings and allowed eight runs, five earned, on 11 hits, all of which were season-highs for Gossard.

Findlay's offense finished with double digit hits and was powered by freshman Casey Gould who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Sophomore Derrick Herd also had two hits and added a run scored while Harrah, Williams, and Johnson each had a hit and a run.

Game 2 | L (7-4) Box Score

In the second game, the Oilers got off to a great start and took a 2-0 lead to open the contest. Harrah led off the game with a bunt single and eventually came around to score on a groundout by Herd. Gould, who hit a double in the first frame, would then tack on the Oilers second run after scoring via error.

The Oilers would eventually take a 4-1 lead in the fifth as Yorgen got things started with a double and later scored on a single by junior Pete Burkett. Sophomore Trevor Anderson, who walked in the inning, would tack on the Oilers second run in the fifth after crossing the plate on a wild pitch.

Findlay held a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning but that quickly disappeared as senior A.J. Cecil surrendered five runs to give Northwood a 7-4 victory.

Gould and Yorgen each went 2-for-5 with two doubles and one run scored apiece. Cecil took the loss by allowing five runs in two innings of work. Sophomore Mark Delas started the game and threw six innings, allowing two runs. Combined, the two hurlers walked 12 batters in the game.

The Oilers end their 2017 campaign with an 18-27 record. They finished with an 8-24 mark in GLIAC play.
