#25 Fairmont St. Defeats Findlay

The University of Findlay men's basketball team suffered a 96-80 loss at 25th-ranked Fairmont State University on Nov. 15 to even their record at 1-1 on the season.

The Oilers held a 19-16 lead with just over 12 minutes to play in the first half before Fairmont State turned up the pressure and scored seven straight to take a 23-19 advantage with 10:50 to play in the opening half. The run jump started the Fighting Falcons as they eventually built a 17-point lead before settling for a 49-37 lead at the break. Fairmont State then cruised through the second half for their third straight victory to begin the 2016-17 season.

The Oilers shot 50 percent (29-of-58) from the floor and hit 5-of-14 (35.7%) of their three point tries. In comparison, Fairmont State connected on 52.9 percent (36-of-68) of their field goal attempts and splashed 12-of-30 (40%) tries from behind the three point line. The Fighting Falcons also held a 24-11 advantage in second chance points and out-scored the Oilers bench 48-32.

Junior guard Martyce Kimbrough led the Oilers with 13 points while junior forward Taren Sullivan and junior guard Elijah Kahlig each pumped in 11 points apiece.

Sophomore forward Alex White contributed ten points and five rebounds while junior guard Austin Gardner had eight points, four assists, four rebounds and three steals,

Sophomore forward Katwan Singleton and senior forward Tyler Stern-Tucker had seven points apiece as well for Findlay off the bench.

Matt Bingaya led the Fighting Falcons with 28 points on 13-of-14 shooting in only 18 minutes of action while Jason Jolly and Thomas Wimbush had 18 points apiece.

The Oilers will be back out on the road again on Saturday, Nov. 19 when they travel to Nashville, Tenn. for a non-conference contest against Trevecca Nazarene. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
