Softball Records Second 4-0 Win Of The Day

McLaughling garners first career shutout.

Kissimmee, Fla. -- The Wayne State University softball team (6-8 overall) tallied its third shutout win in the last four games with a 4-0 victory over Wisconsin-Parkside (3-8 overall) Tuesday morning.

The Warriors grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as junior right fielder Alison Allen (Redford, Mich. / Farmington Hills Mercy) had a leadoff double to left center.  After a sacrifice bunt by junior Rebecca Stanley (Waterloo, Ont. / Waterloo C.I.) and a ground out, sophomore catcher Brittany Omelanchuk (Brooklin, Ont. / Wilson S.S.) drilled a two-run home run to left center.  It was Omelanchuk's first round tripper of the season.

WSU added a single run in the second as freshman left fielder Logan White (Brantford, Ont. / Johnson C.V.I.) had an infield single.  Following a fielder's choice, freshman third baseman Amanda Burnard (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth) laced a single through the left side.  A passed ball advanced Lauren Histed (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica) to third and Burnard to second, and Allen's sacrifice fly to center field scored Histed.

Wayne State completed the scoring with a single run in the third.  Omelanchuk laced a one-out double to deep right center and scored on an RBI single by sophomore center fielder Steph Foreman (Cambridge, Ont. / Preston).

Freshman pitcher Lauren McLaughlin () recorded her first career shutout and improved her record to 3-3.
