Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader at Hillsdale on Monday

Five Warriors drive in two runs each in game two win.

HILLSDALE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (9-12, 3-5 GLIAC) concluded its series at Hillsdale (8-16, 3-5 GLIAC) on Monday afternoon. Kyle Zimmerman (Frankfort, Mich,) led WSU to a game one 5-3 victory with a complete game and seven strikeouts while five Warriors drove in two runs each in a 14-3 game two victory to split the series with a Monday sweep.

Sean Winkelseth (Ypsilanti, Mich.) led off the second inning with a double to right field, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Aaron Loconsole's (Macomb, Mich. / Marine City) groundout to third base. A pinch-hit RBI single from Devin Rose (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Orchard Lake St. Mary's) extended Wayne State's lead to 2-0.

The Chargers rallied for three runs in the next two innings including two in the fifth inning.

However, Zimmerman (2-2) kept Hillsdale quiet over the final two innings to earn his second complete game of the season. He allowed three earned runs on five hits and struck seven batters. A Hillsdale error in the third inning allowed two more runs to score. A bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch plated two more runs in the fourth inning to extend WSU's lead to 6-0 lead.

Nathan Manis (Port Huron, Mich. / Port Huron Northern) singled to begin the sixth inning, advanced to second on a walk, stole third base and scored on a throwing error by the catcher.
