Weather Spoils Oiler Comeback; Lose First Game

Detroit, MI – The University of Findlay softball team traveled to Detroit, Michigan to face Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Wayne State University in a doubleheader, which took place on Friday April 3.  The Oilers lost the first game 1-0 and the second game ended at 1-1 after eight innings.  The second game will resume at a later date.  After today's doubleheader the Oilers have a 12-10 record on the season.

In the first game, Chelsea McManaway picked up the loss on the mound for the Oilers.  She gave up six hits and struck out four batters in 6.2 innings pitched. 

Megan Turner and Emily Stewart both finished the game at the dish with a single. 

The game was tied 0-0 heading to the bottom of the seventh inning and unfortunately Wayne State won the contest off a walk off sacrifice fly to claim the 1-0 victory. 

In the second game, Nicole Motuza started the game on the mound for the Oilers and got the no decision.  She pitched five innings and gave up seven hits and struck out one batter.  Bonnie Zappitelli took over on the mound and allowed only one hit and struck out two batters in three innings.     

The Oilers got on the board first to take a 1-0 lead, but then in the top of the sixth inning the Warriors scored to tie the game 1-1 and score remained that until play was suspended. 

Kelley Cejer knocked one out of the park for the Oilers and Jenna Huff finished the game with two singles. 

The Oilers return to the field on Saturday, April 4 when they travel to University Center, MI to face GLIAC rival Saginaw Valley State University in a doubleheader with the first game slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
