Box Score

The six-game winning streak by the Malone University women's basketball team ended at GLIAC South opponent Hillsdale College (MI) on Thursday night as the Pioneers fell to the host Chargers by the score of 85-69.

A decisive edge by Hillsdale in both field goal percentage, including from beyond the arc, and in rebounds proved to be the key factors in the Charger victory as the hosts tallied a 54% field goal percentage (32-59), including 9-15 (60%) from three-point land, to Malone's 42% from the field (27-65) and 29% (5-17) from long range.  The hosts also held a sizable advantage in rebounds at 41-32.  Points at the free throw line were fairly even (12 to 10 in favor of Hillsdale) but the Chargers held an 80% (12-15) to 59% (10-17) edge percentage-wise.

Other than a 2-2 tie early in the first half, Hillsdale, who improved to 7-10 (6-7 GLIAC), kept the advantage throughout the first 20, with its largest lead of 15 points (28-13) at the 8:19 mark, before the Pioneers, who fell to 13-6 (8-5 GLIAC), trimmed their deficit to 43-36 at the intermission.

In the second half, Malone started the final stanza on a 10-3 run to knot the game at 46-46 with 17:37 left in the game. The hosts responded immediately, though, and steadily pulled away for the remainder of the contest as the Chargers posted the 16-point 85-69 home win.

For Malone, guard Sydnee Penn led the Pioneer scoring with 16 points while adding three boards, three steals and two assists.  Forwards Lindsy Snyder and Bri Libertore followed with 14 points apiece as each athlete shot very well from the floor (Snyder 5-7; Libertore 6-7).  Snyder pulled down a team-best eight rebounds while Libertore was right behind with seven. Guard Selana Reale dished out a team-high six assists.

For Hillsdale, Megan Fogt tossed in a game-high 25 points while Madison Berry followed with 16 points. Fogt also paced the Chargers in rebounds with 12 boards.

Malone will next compete in a home GLIAC contest vs. the University of Findlay (9-8, 6-7 GLIAC) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.  Live stats and live video will be available for this contest.
