#13 Eagles Top Oilers 40-28

The University of Findlay football team lost 40-28 to 13th-ranked Ashland University on Sep. 26 in Ashland, Ohio. The loss gives the Oilers a 3-1 record on the season with a 2-1 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers fell behind by a score of 26-14 at the half and rallied in the second half to cut the lead to five on three different occasions. In the end, three turnovers and a few big plays by Ashland proved to be the difference in the game.

Sophomore quarterback Rhys Gervais completed 27-of-48 passing attempts for 341 yards and three touchdowns. He also threw three interceptions, his first picks of the season.

Senior wide receiver Tim Szabo caught five passes for 115 yards while sophomore wide receiver Jason Moore had nine receptions for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore receiver Airion Kosak added four catches for 66 yards while junior wide receiver Dylan Blunk made four receptions for 34 yards.

Freshman running back Marcus Jones led the ground game with 12 carries for 98 yards and one touchdown while senior running back Daiquone Ford managed 22 yards on nine carries.

Junior linebacker Myles Alexander paced the defense with 17 tackles while junior linebacker Anthony Linnear had 13 stops.

The Oilers will be back at home again next week to host 4th-ranked Ferris State University. The game is scheduled to begin at noon in Donnell Stadium.
