Oilers Rout #17 Lakers 79-60

The University of Findlay women's basketball team claimed a 79-60 win over 17th-ranked Grand Valley State University on Jan. 4 in Croy Gymnasium. The victory gives the Oilers a 6-4 record on the season with a 2-4 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers built a 37-24 lead at the break and then cruised through the second half for their second conference win of the season.  They shot 52.6 percent (30-of-57) from the floor and also held a 40-27 advantage on the boards in the game.  Findlay also connected on 8-of-17 (47.1%) shot attempts from behind the three point line and blocked six shots during the win.

Sophomore guard Karli Bonar led the team with 18 points, connecting on a career-high 6-of-7 three point tries in the game, while senior forward Lacey Kessler stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Junior forward Margaret Wuebker had 15 points, five rebounds and two blocks in only 18 minutes of action while junior forward Kelsey Lewis recorded her second double-double of the season with ten points and ten boards in 15 minutes of work.

Senior guard Ciara Geiger posted ten points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals for Findlay as well.

The Lakers, who shot 41 percent (25-of-61) from the floor, were led by Kayla Dawson's 14 points.

The Oilers will return to action on Jan. 8 against Saginaw Valley State University. The game is scheduled to tip at 6 p.m. in University Center, Mich.
