Softball Sweeps Malone on Sunday

The University of Findlay softball team swept a twin bill against Malone University on Sunday, April 6 in Canton, Ohio. The Oilers claimed a 9-0 victory in the first game and then held on for a 5-2 win in the nightcap.

The wins give the Oilers an 11-8 record on the season with a 5-5 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

In the first game, the Oilers pounded out ten hits and were led by Emily Reynolds, who went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.

Tori Allen drove in a pair of runs while Megan Turner had a great game at the dish with three hits in three at bats. She also drove in two runs during the victory.

Tawna Whited improved to 9-3 on the season by limiting the Pioneers to only three hits in the shutout win.

The Oilers scored all five of their runs during the second inning in game number two and were led by Jackie Messersmith, who drove in three runs with a double.

Whited again picked up the win on the mound for Findlay after allowing zero runs in four innings of work.

Bonnie Zappitelli threw two innings of shutout relief while Nicole Motuza allowed two runs in an inning of action.

The Oilers will return to the field on April 9 when they face Wayne State University in a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m. in Detroit, Mich.
