The Malone University volleyball team outlasted another GLIAC opponent Friday evening as the Pioneers topped host Northwood University (MI) in a five-set match by the score of 26-24, 22-25, 29-31, 25-23, 15-11. Â
The conference victory marked the fifth one for the Pioneers in their last six GLIAC matches. With the win, Malone improved to 7-10 overall and to 5-5 in the conference while the Timberwolves fell to 5-9 overall and to 2-8 in GLIAC play.
Malone displayed a balanced offensive attack as four Pioneers tallied 10 or more kills in the match led by outside hitter
Taylor Slauterbeck with 12. Outside hitters
Anna Hays and
Sarah Brent, along with middle hitter
Elizabeth Maczuzak, recorded 10 kills apiece. Setter
Jordan Sollars directly contributed to many of those kills with 30 assists on the night while fellow setter
Brianna Clegg posted 20 assists.
Defensive specialist/libero
Katie Hasebein notched another impressive dig count with 38 for the match while Maczuzak posted three block assists and one solo block for the Pioneer defensive cause.
Malone will next compete in another road GLIAC contest on Saturday afternoon in a 2:00 p.m. match at Lake Superior State University (MI).
