Volleyball Wins Five-Setter At Northwood For Fifth GLIAC Win In Last Six Attempts

Outside hitter Anna Hays drilled 10 kills for the Pioneers in Malone's five-set win at Northwood University (MI) Friday night.

The Malone University volleyball team outlasted another GLIAC opponent Friday evening as the Pioneers topped host Northwood University (MI) in a five-set match by the score of 26-24, 22-25, 29-31, 25-23, 15-11.

The conference victory marked the fifth one for the Pioneers in their last six GLIAC matches. With the win, Malone improved to 7-10 overall and to 5-5 in the conference while the Timberwolves fell to 5-9 overall and to 2-8 in GLIAC play.

Malone displayed a balanced offensive attack as four Pioneers tallied 10 or more kills in the match led by outside hitter Taylor Slauterbeck with 12. Outside hitters Anna Hays and Sarah Brent, along with middle hitter Elizabeth Maczuzak, recorded 10 kills apiece. Setter Jordan Sollars directly contributed to many of those kills with 30 assists on the night while fellow setter Brianna Clegg posted 20 assists.

Defensive specialist/libero Katie Hasebein notched another impressive dig count with 38 for the match while Maczuzak posted three block assists and one solo block for the Pioneer defensive cause.

Malone will next compete in another road GLIAC contest on Saturday afternoon in a 2:00 p.m. match at Lake Superior State University (MI).
