EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (4-1) won its third straight game, 9-4, and handed St. Joseph's (4-1) its first loss of the season on Saturday in the Dunn Hospitality Invitational. A five-run fifth inning and solid work out of the bullpen by
Tyler Waldrop (Grand Ledge, Mich.) (1-0) propelled the Warriors to the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warriors struck first with a run in the top of the first inning powered by a single by
Brad Baldwin (Troy, Mich. / Bishop Foley Catholic) and a double from
Griffin Harms (Bingham Farms, Mich. / Birmingham Groves). WSU added a run in the top of third inning with an RBI groundout from Baldwin. However, St. Joseph's scored four runs on three hits and two errors in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-2 lead.

Devin Rose (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Orchard Lake St. Mary's) began the scoring in fifth inning with a solo home run over the left field wall. Back-to-back RBI singles by
Jeremy Carrell (St. Clair, Mich.) and Baldwin gave the Green & Gold a 5-4 advantage. Another double from Harms drove home a run and he later scored on a passed ball WSU's fifth run of the inning and put the Warriors up 7-4.
- Baldwin added another RBI wih a sacrifice fly in the top of ninth inning and Baldwin followed with an RBI triple to give Wayne State a 9-4 lead.
AT THE PLATE
- The top three batters (Carrell, Baldwin, Harms) in WSU's lineup provided all the offense needed, going 7-of-15 with six RBI and five runs scored.
ON THE MOUND

Jared Tobey (St. Clair, Mich.) started and allowed two earned runs over three and 2/3 innings, while striking out four batters. Waldrop did not allow a hit in his five and 1/3 innings of work, while striking out five batters.
