DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team played the first of three weekend matches at home Friday afternoon, winning 9-0 over Lake Erie College at the WSU Tennis Courts. The Warriors improved to 7-7 overall and 6-2 in the GLIAC with the win.
The Warriors swept all six singles matches and dropped just three games overall in doubles to cruise to the victory. WSU improved to 3-1 at home this season and earned its first win when playing outdoors this season.
Wayne State freshman
Ryan Carlson (Armada, Mich. / Armada) earned his first GLIAC victories in both singles and doubles, winning 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 singles spot, while picking up an 8-1 win with senior
Gopinath Menta (Hyderabad, India) at the third flight in doubles.
Freshmen
Clement Charriere (Marseille, France) and
Stephane Robineau (Paris, France) each earned straight-set victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Sophomore
Mohamed Fazyl Kechai (Paris, France / Martin Luther King), senior
Michael FitzGerald (Grosse Ile, Mich. / Grosse Ile) and Menta also won in straight sets in singles.
Junior
Trey Keating (Troy, Mich. / Troy) and Robineau posted an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, while FitzGerald and Charriere were 8-2 winners at the second doubles flight.
Wayne State returns to the tennis court on Saturday, hosting Walsh University for a 12 p.m. match at the WSU Tennis Courts.
