DETROIT, Mich. – In its final home match of the year, the Wayne State women's tennis team defeated Niagara 7-2 on Tuesday for WSU's sixth win in as many matches. After sweeping the three doubles contests, Wayne State was able to clinch the match thanks to four singles victories.

Leading WSU's doubles charge was the No. 1 team of Sharon Gill (Windsor, Ont./Academie Ste. Cecile) and Kristina Goranskaya (Thornhill, Ont./Northview Heights Secondary School) who shutout Hilary Hansen and Alyssa Lucas 8-0.

Wayne State almost had another perfect pair on the day at No. 3 doubles where Jennifer Bradford (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) and Debora Correa (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Padre Eustaquio) downed Emma Cunnington and Julia Gray 8-1.

In the closest doubles match of the afternoon, McCall Monte (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich./Gross Pointe South) and Milena Vuksanovic (Pancevo, Serbia/Uros Predic Secondary School) were able to beat Raquel Solis and Brittany Walters 8-6.

For just the second time this season, Gill was pushed to a third set in the first singles flight. After splitting the first two sets 6-0, 3-6, Gill took the decider 6-2 for her 62nd career victory. Gill is now tied with Dee Mays as WSU's all-time leader in singles victories.

The other Warrior wins came from No. 2 Goranskaya (6-0, 6-3), No. 4 Monte (4-6, 6-1, 10-4) and No. 6 Medha Jha (6-2, 6-3) (Troy, Mich./Athens).

Both Vuksanovic (6-7 (2), 7-5, 16-14) and Correa (7-6 (5), 7-6 (3)) suffered close losses at third and fifth singles respectively.

WSU will close out its regular season at Valparaiso on April 5. The Warriors defeated Valparaiso 9-0 earlier this season in a match played at Wayne State.
